One of my favorite songs of Worship is “Great Are You Lord” and especially the part where we sing, “It’s Your breath in our lungs so we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise to You only!” I was profoundly touched in my Spirit one morning while singing these words as the question came crashing in….”Does your breath always pour out praise?”
Holy Spirit conviction brought home the sobering thought that the breath of God in my lungs does not always offer pure words. For me it is not a matter of “cursing”, but a matter of “cruising”. That’s right, cruising through some days breathing out fear, anxiety, impatience, unbelief, resentment …… and the words I gave breath to in those moments did not represent the Holy Breath of God who lives in me!
I know you are thinking, “None of us are perfect!”, and that is so true. However, we are to be allowing the Holy Spirit to “perfect His Image” in us and through us.
James 3:2 AMP confirms, “For we all often stumble and fall and offend in any things. And if anyone does not offend in speech (never says wrong things), he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.”
My youngest grandson is three and struggles at times in areas of “independence”! If you have children, you probably know exactly where I am going! When he wants something HIS way and it doesn’t happen it can be a battle of the will between mom and son. This “perfecting” of his character is taking time and patience as he learns to “submit” to his parent’s correction and expectation as a member of the family.
Likewise, we are to grow up in Him! I Corinthians 13:11 AMP puts it like this, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man (woman), I am done with childish ways and have put them aside.”
Today I have written this prayer as a result of personal correction from the Holy Spirit to get my “breathing” in sync with His Word, His very Breath!
Father we acknowledge Your Word…..that You created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them and it is You Who breathed Your breath and spirit to the every person on earth!
Father, help us as women to commit our breath, our words, to only speaking what brings life to our husbands, children and those around us. Help us to learn how to keep a rein on our tongue and how to submit our attitude to the Cross of Jesus.
As we seek Your face, help us perceive how we can become contributors to peace and tranquility instead of strife and conflict. Holy Spirit, saturate us in the oil of your Presence so that we are melded and conformed into the image of Jesus…willing to surrender our personality, dreams and ambitions to You…..throwing ourselves on the Potter’s wheel to be remade for Your purpose!
Let our desire be stirred to be one of those rare and special women You consider of such great value and worth. Holy Spirit, do the deep work of Your grace in our lives….initiate your work deep inside our souls so that we can be a source of stability and peace in our homes. Where we don’t give in to anger or fly into a rage and say things we will regret later.
May our husband and children depend on us to be a tower of strength even in the midst of turmoil and difficult situations. I declare that because we are stable women, we help bring stability to our husband, to our children and to the general atmosphere in our home. Instead of being a contributor to strife, conflict and turmoil, use us to bring peace and tranquility to all those who are near us. Give us willing hearts to lay any unruly, unholy emotional fear at your feet and receive your grace and peace!
By living this life in the spirit, we acknowledge that every breath in our lungs has been given to us as a “gift” from you our Father God, Creator! Therefore, we are slow to speak and quick to listen.
We will purpose to obey Hebrews 13:15 and “Through You…every breath You have given us…..we will constantly and at all times offer up to You a sacrifice of praise”….because we are humbly aware that it is Your breath in our lungs and not our own, it is because of You that we live, move and have any being…..so we choose to bear the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify Your name!!
Ever Growing in Him!
